Cole's Story

     Cole was born 6-26-93

     Cole was a very text book child for ADHD but I just didn't know it then.

     He was a very fussy baby, that was NOT by any means easy to soothe.  He was also walking at 6 months old and was running for 2 weeks before i actually got him to slow down and walk... He was always jumping from toy to toy never satisfied for more than 5 minutes at the most.

     We also had him in speech classes at the age of 2 1/2-3 because he would not talk, or could not, we still havent figured that out....We had to start with sign language, which I had to learn first, and after taking almost 1 month, Cole finally started to pick some of the signs up.   After 3 months of doing sign language, he started saying the words he was signing and then from there just picked up talking.  OOh but what a struggle.

     All the time being, he was on no meds or anything, I would just deal with it...getting frustrated, and even angry.(along with guilt of being mad at a 3 yr old).  No one even suggested anything to us.

     Now in this little boys life of 8 yrs, I have just in the past 2 yrs been "comfortable" taking him places.

     When he started Kindergarten in '98, we had a horrible teacher!!!!  Cole was sent to the office numerous times, with no phone call home, she would stick him & his desk in a corner and seperate him, and even told me personally during a conference that "It was NICE to not have Cole in class".   Well I was enraged!!!   How could a teacher tell a parent that!  And if she could tell me that, how was she treating my child.   So we pulled Cole out of that school(because they wouldn't change teachers) and put him in Private school.   After 3 months of private school, he was kicked out because of his behavior!!   Kicked out at age 5!!!!   But the only good thing about that was the private school had recommended a doctor.   We went to that doctor and after having me fill out some questions, they told me Cole was ADHD.   But the next words were RITALIN!!   I was outta there quicker than when a light bulb goes out.

     I have heard so many bad things about that drug I was not doing it!!!  The search went on for another 4 dr.'s which all started out with RITALIN..Until Dr. Thy Vo in Sullivan, MO looked at me and said, Ill never forget this, "Cole is ADHD, but if you are looking to put him on Ritalin, you can find another dr. right now and not waste my time"   I was so thrilled, finally not a Ritalin pushing dr.!!!   But before he would put Cole on meds, we had to get an opinion with a Pyschologist, and a Psychiatrist.

     As long as those 2 agreed, then would come meds...Adderrall is what he is on now.

      What a huge difference!!!! But with theropy, we have also discovered that ADD & ADHD kids are more prone to discover sexual acts & feelings faster than others. Their little brains are thinking and running so fast, they discover the feelings much sooner. So now there is an added twist to this horrible thing that attacks kids.
