My Moluccan Cockatoo
"Miss Molly Bird"

It's been a long time since I learned the unfortunate lesson that red wasps are attracted to bright colors.... a lesson that cost my beloved Spectacled Amazon's life.

And for a long time I've wanted to get another parrot, but have instead, surrounded myself with VARIOUS other critters.  Pet rats, guinea pigs, dogs, gerbils, fish, parakeets, finches, a mynah bird (unless you like wiping poo off the walls, not a reccommended pet!), a ferret, a nile monitor straight from the wild to my home
(wouldn't reccommend this one to my worst enemy!  Oh, ok, yeah, I would LOL)
who broke (literally) out of his cage and tried to eat my chihuahua.......
various snakes, iguanas....and..... well, you get the idea.

But I've now embarked on the most challenging pet yet..... a Moluccan Cockatoo.....right up my alley huh?  What can I say, look at my life...... at all I've been through and am going through and will go through with my kids....... I've been fighting and struggling right on for a long time now.
If you look at that, you'll see this bird should fit right in!!!
A bird that requires tons of care, love and work.  Another difficult child!  LOL

I've order her a flight suit and it's on it's way.... as soon as it gets here I'll take her and her playstand that my hubby made for her outside so the pictures turn out better.

Ok, so how'd I end up with Molly Bird?

Well, I went to a Bird Show in Pasadena, Tx with my Aunt Hazel.... and saw a lot of interesting birds there.... ranging from little finches to macaws.  But only one caught my eye..... a sweet baby Moluccan Cockatoo sitting in a cage, playing with a rope toy.

The owner pulled Molly out for me to handle her after I cleaned my hands..... and I fell in love even more.  She crawled up on me and snuggled her head on my neck and fell right asleep.

The owner let me know that she was hatched June 21st.....and told me the specifics and a bunch of things I needed to know about her.

Well I wanted her, end of story...... but guess what?  She couldn't take credit cards!  She didn't have the equipment to run it through!!!   I was heartbroken..... Matt was heartbroken!

So we tooled around the show for a while, then went home utterly depressed.

Later in the day, after talking to Aunt Hazel and some friends of hers, we decided to go back to the bird show the next day as there was supposed to be more sellers there the second day.

So come the next morning, as Aunt Hazel is on her way to get me, she gets a phone call from the daughter of her friends...... as Hazel tells me..... the owner of this Umbrella Cockatoo we had looked at said she could take my credit card and she'd hold the bird for me if I was still interested.  I told Hazel.....I can look at it, but it's not the bird I really want.

We get there, meet up with her friends, Charles and Judy, and they are all standing around grinning like fools...... I'm looking over toward the Umbrella Cockatoo thinking that I doubt I'll get it.....and then looking over at the baby I want so much.... when Charles asked Hazel if she told me.

Hazel said ..... sort of and starts laughing.  So he asked, "you didn't tell her she can have her baby?" and of course, I pop up and say "what baby?"....  and the truth comes out while all of them are laughing their heads off and I'm bouncing up and down in excitement.

As soon as I got to the booth, the breeder laughed and asked me what I was doing back, then put Molly in my arms.  The rest is history.
