My GreenWing Macaw
"Harley"
So by now, you've probably read about Molly, my
Moluccan Cockatoo.... if not, you might want to read that one first. LOL
Molly is now just over a year
old. I had been wanting a greenwing macaw for a while now and for some odd
reason (I'm not complaining mind you) my husband decided we could
"research" greenwings and see what we could find.
So we hit the computer.....him at
work and me at home, finding all we could find on greenwing macaws.
After a couple of weeks he told me to email Parrot Passion (where we got Molly
from) and see if they had any or might get any soon. As luck has it,
they had 3...one was due to head to Louisiana in July to replace a greenwing
lost in Hurricane Katrina, leaving me 2 to choose from.
About a week later, we went down
just to look at them..... buy a cage and put a deposit on the bird..... and
though I didn't intend to, I ended up picking the one I wanted right then and
there.

This is what Harley looked like when we visited in
May...
That was a month ago. Now
Harley's being moved to a transitional cage where he'll get used to being in a
cage and learn to perch. We are hoping to bring him home at the end of
this month (july) or early august.

Harley in June
We visited Harley July 9th... He's
a cutie..... but I'd be surprised if he got to come home at the end of the
month..... but you never know, a lot of things can happen in a few weeks.
His hatch date is 4/24/06 and at
the time of these pictures on July 9th, he weighed 1155 grams.

These were taken a week and a half later, on
the 17th of July.
This next batch was taken on the
27th of July... Harley is now 3 months old.
If you look closely, you'll notice
his beak is slightly crooked. It's actually quite a bit better than it was
on the 9th of this month. We're hoping when he starts chewing on wood that
it will correct even more.
Harley's eating pellets.... has
learned to perch.... but still needs to fledge and do better at eating fruits
and veggies before coming home. A tentative "coming home"
time is mid August.
