ADVISORY...for Tuesday (Sept. 19)--(BW HealthWire)--
WHO: Dr. Russell Barkley, author of the best-selling "Taking
Charge of ADHD: A Complete Authoritative Guide for Parents," invited
presenter to the surgeon general's conference, and lead researcher in
the development of the imaging agent Altropane for the diagnosis of
ADHD.
WHY: During the past 10 years there has been a 700 percent
increase in the use of drugs like ritalin among children. Recent
lawsuits allege that drug companies have conspired with the
psychiatric community to "create" ADHD in order to boost profits. No
objective diagnostic test for ADHD currently exists.
WHAT: Research published last December in The Lancet reports that
Altropane shows promise to be the first objective diagnostic test for
ADHD. The Altropane test identifies and measures brain biochemical
abnormalities specific to patients with ADHD. In addition to
establishing a biochemical basis for ADHD, Altropane could eliminate
the guesswork currently used to diagnose the disorder.
WHEN: Dr. Barkley is available for interviews today, Tuesday,
September 19th, from 2-5PM EST.
MEDIA: In addition to Dr. Barkley, interviews can be scheduled
with Marc Lanser, MD, Chief Scientific Officer for Boston Life
Sciences, the company developing Altropane. A VNR and b-roll featuring
an Altropane brain scan and interviews with patients, parents and
doctors are available upon request.
